Insurance rates for your Ford F-350 can be significantly different subject to many criteria. Taken into consideration are:

  • Traffic citations increase rates

  • Men typically pay more than women
  • Deductible amount directly impacts your rate
  • Your vehicle's safety rating
  • No claims lowers premiums
  • No coverage lapses saves money
  • Whether you rent or own your home

One last important factor that helps determine the rate you pay on your Ford F-350 is the year of manufacture. Older models have a reduced actual cash value so the payout to repair can decrease annual premiums. Conversely, more recent F-350 vehicles may have options such as autonomous braking, dual-stage airbags, and sideview assist mirrors that may help lower rates.

How does the size and class of the Ford F-350 affect liability rates?

Most states require drivers to have liability insurance, so it is important that you understand how your choice of vehicle can cause your liability rates to go through the roof. What does liability insurance cover? It pays for the other driver’s medical and property bills after an accident, so any cars that can inflict significant damage or are more likely to crash will have higher liability rates.

Unfortunately, the Ford F-350 is a very large pickup. Why are pickups so expensive to insure? The size of a pickup means that if crashes into other vehicles, the property damage and bodily injury losses may be more severe. Because of this, insurers will definitely look at insurance losses to determine liability rates.

To show you what insurers will be looking at, we pulled insurance losses from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the Ford F-350 SuperCrew 4WD.

  • Property Damage Losses: 34 percent (substantially worse than average)
  • Bodily injury Losses: -8 percent (average)

The bodily injury losses are not bad, but the property damage losses are terrible. To see if this will cause high liability rates, keep reading.

What does liability insurance cost for the Ford F-350?

We filled out a sample quote from Geico to see what liability insurance would cost for a 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty DRW Crew Cab (4×2 two-door pickup). Our sample is based on a 40-year-old driver who lives in Pennsylvania, has a clean driving record, and travels 13,000 miles a year.

The first set of prices below is for bodily injury coverage (for a six-month policy).

  • Low ($15,000/$30,000): $45.78
  • Medium ($100,000/$200,000): $93.84
  • High ($500,000/$500,000): $151.07

These price increases may seem high, but the amount of coverage you get is great. Medical bills are expensive, which is why it’s important to have at least medium coverage in case you injure someone in an accident.

The price increases for property damage coverage are a bit lower, but the amount of coverage offered is lower (cars are cheaper to repair than people).

  • Low ($5,000): $462.50
  • Medium ($20,000): $498.39
  • High ($100,000): $524.61

It only costs $62 to upgrade from low to high coverage, which is about an extra $10 a month.

What are the safety features and ratings of the Ford F-350?

Curious about what safety features are included with your Ford F-350? The more safety features there are on your car, the more willing your insurer will be in offering a discount. Take a look at AutoBlog’s list of standard safety features for the 2020 Ford F-350 below.

  • Crash prevention: anti-lock brakes and stability control.
  • Crash safety: front-impact airbags, side-impact airbags, and overhead airbags.
  • Anti-theft: ignition disable device.

The Ford F-350 is a little light on safety features. Not only does this mean that you are less safe, but it also means you won’t earn as big a discount on your car insurance. In addition, the Ford F-350 hasn’t been crash-tested by the IIHS.

Because of this, insurers will likely look at fatality rates for pickups to gauge the crash risk of the Ford F-350. According to the IIHS, 2018 driver fatalities per million vehicles were 34 fatalities for pickups, 23 fatalities for SUVs, and 48 fatalities for cars. For all occupant fatalities per million vehicles, there were 42 pickup fatalities, 32 SUV fatalities, and 69 car fatalities.

These numbers show that pickups are in the middle safety-wise — pickups have more fatalities than SUVs but fewer fatalities than cars. Interestingly, the total number of fatalities in 2018 actually shows that pickups had the fewest fatalities. The breakdown of pickup fatalities by crash type is below.

  • Frontal Impact: 2,493 deaths
  • Side Impact: 807 deaths
  • Rear Impact: 173 deaths
  • Other (mostly rollovers): 896 deaths

Pickups only had a total of 4,369 fatalities in 2018, with frontal impacts being the deadliest type of crash. In comparison, there were 5,035 SUV fatalities and 13,138 car fatalities. Based on these numbers, a pickup is one of the safer vehicles to drive around in.

What is the MSRP of the Ford F-350?

Did you know that the manufacturer suggested retail price affects your car insurance rates? Insurers use this price to determine the value of a car, as MSRP is a fixed price, unlike the invoice price (the seller price) or the fair market value (what others are paying).

The two coverages that MSRP effects are collision coverage and comprehensive coverage, as these coverages pay for your car repairs after an accident. Collision covers crashes with other vehicles and objects, while comprehensive covers crashes with animals, weather damages, vandalism, and theft.

If the MSRP is high, this means that your insurer will have to pay more for repairs. To offset these potential losses, insurers will raise your collision and comprehensive rates. Want to know what the MSRP is for a Ford F-350?

According to Kelley Blue Book (KBB), the prices for the 2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty are as follows:

  • MSRP: $39,715
  • Invoice: $37,810
  • Fair Purchase Price: $37,038
  • Fair Market Range: $35,594 to $38,482

The MSRP is about $3,000 more than the fair purchase price, which shows how important it is to shop around for a fair purchase price.

Another factor that can affect the price of your car insurance is the insurance losses for collision and comprehensive insurance. Insurers want to know what the best and worst vehicles for overall collision losses and comprehensive losses are, as it helps insurers calculate a vehicle’s risk.

Luckily, most of the losses for the different versions of the Ford F-F30 are good. Below, you can see the IIHS’s data on average losses for collision insurance.

  • Ford F-350 4WD: -38 percent (substantially better than average)
  • Ford F-350 SuperCab 4WD: -43 percent (substantially better than average)
  • Ford F-350 SuperCrew 4WD: -14 percent (average)

All of these losses are negative, which is great. However, the comprehensive losses aren’t as good as the collision losses.

  • Ford F-350 SuperCab 4WD: -9 percent (average)
  • Ford F-350 SuperCrew 4WD: 58 percent (substantially worse than average)

If you own the SuperCrew version of the Ford F-350, you may find that you have slightly higher rates for collision insurance. In addition, insurance is higher on a diesel truck, so any model version that runs on diesel may also have more expensive rates.

You may also wonder, does a 4×4 cost more to insure? The answer is yes, a 4×4 will cost more to insure than if you own a 2×2 version of the Ford F-350. For all other versions, however, you should have normal rates.

How much will it cost to repair my Ford F-350?

Knowing what your average repair costs are will help you prepare for yearly expenses. Cars that need expensive repair parts, such as custom made paint or a hard-to-find fender, will cost more to repair. If your car is expensive to repair or prone to breakdowns, insurers will charge more.

So to see what repairs are like for the 2020 Ford F-350, we used InstantEstimator’s free estimate tool to get repair estimates for level two damage.

  • Front bumper: $389
  • Rear bumper: $399
  • Hood: $411
  • Roof: $459
  • Front door: $403
  • Rear door: $391
  • Fender: $363
  • Quarter panel: $411

The repair costs for the Ford F-350 look about average, which is good news. Because the Ford F-350 is mass-produced by a popular manufacturer, parts and paint will be easier to find than if you had a custom-made or vintage car.

Now that we are at the end of our guide to Ford F-350 car insurance costs, we hope you have a better understanding of the rates you should be paying.
